Somnium Imagery

Do you think that is a good name for a photography venture? Somnium - Dream in latin.

'Dream' is the reason for this blog. I dream of giving up my day job - the one that sometimes sucks the joy from my soul, the song from my lungs, and the dream from my heart. (ok so maybe that is a bit over the top, but you get the idea).

I dream of spending my days taking pictures for people of the ones they love, capturing moments that will last forever.

I dream of taking pictures that people want to put on canvas and display in their homes, to bring them joy every time they walk down the hallway or sit at the dining table. Because that kind of thing brings me joy. Every time I see a print on my wall at home, my heart sings.

I dream of making beautiful art for people with their favourite photos, so that the photo gets truly enjoyed, not just put away in an album.

This is what I dream of {well...one of my dreams, anyways}. What are you dreaming of?

Christmas '09

So it was christmas time. My little man had just received every thomas train he could possibly ask for, a sand pit, a new bike, a slippery slide....the list is endless. But we were at nana and poppy's place, and his favourite toy was already there, the whole time...it has been for years! And it is so obviously a favourite pick for any boy who likes dirt and worms and mud and cars...

The lid of their septic tank!!

We couldn't get him off it. The sun would beat down on it every day, and it is black...pitch black. Just about the hottest surface you can imagine. But it was, apparently, the only place to be seen. The coolest pad in town. And the best place to play with our very first ever matchbox fire engine.

And this is now one of my all time favourite photos. It is technically flawed, but it sits on my bedside table and brings me so much joy to see it first thing in the morning, and last thing at night.

And while I am in a sharing mood, here are some more from christmas. The light was fantastic...some of the time. The grass was a great length for taking the kind of shots that keep me awake at night. The mood was right. But the march flies were atrocious. You could saddle these things and ride off into the sunset...if you were that way inclined.

Beginnings

Been meaning to do this for such a long time. And have just spent hours making it look all pretty, kinda figure I should probably post something too.

My beautiful friend Mim. So loving, trusting, generous, good-natured, good-humoured, tolerant and inspiring....my first post is for you because you are so patient and encouraging with me and my camera.

This shoot was so much fun! And I loved the way the flowers from the jacaranda tree matched your top.
